Redressement

Redressement

the forcible correction of a deformity of some part of the musculoskeletal system, mainly of the extremities. In redressement, the skin remains uninjured. The deformity is partially corrected by traction, after which the position attained is maintained by means of a plaster bandage. Traction and fixation are repeated until the deformity is corrected. Redressement is performed with congenital clubfoot, arthrogryposis, rachitic distortion of the extremities, contractures, and improper knitting of bones. The functional results of redressement are especially important in childhood.
