Troshin, Afanasii Semenovich

 

Born Dec. 10 (23), 1912, in the village of Al’za, now in Chamzinka Raion, Mordovian ASSR. Soviet cytologist and cytophysiologist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1960). Member of the CPSU since 1944.

In 1936, Troshin graduated from the department of biology at Leningrad State University, where he was a student of D. N. Na-sonov. Troshin works in the Institute of Cytology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He became head of the institute’s laboratory in 1957 and the institute’s director in 1958. Troshin’s main works deal with cell physiology. He has been awarded the Order of the October Revolution, three other orders, and several medals.
