Established: 1935.
Location:Southeast corner of Montana, at the eastern end of the Centennial Valley.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, picnic areas, trails, campgrounds, boat launch.
Activities:Canoeing, fishing, hiking, hunting, primitive camping, snowmobiling, educational programs.
Special Features:Refuge is designated a National Natural Landmark, as well as one of the few marshland wilderness areas in the country. As such, it is managed for primitive wilderness values and no formal trails are designated or maintained.
Habitats: 43,500 acres of high-elevation mountain wetlands and riparian lands.
Access: Weekdays during daylight hours.
Wild life: Trumpeter swans, sandhill cranes, badgers, wolverines, bears, wolves, Arctic grayling, westslope cutthroat trout, moose and pronghorn antelope.
