Vetrenyi Zone
a mountain ridge on the northern part of the Eastern European plain, south of the Onega Inlet, in the Karelian ASSR and the Arkhangel’sk Oblast of the RSFSR. The zone is about 200 km long and from 200 to 300 m high (336 m at the highest point). It consists of ridges extending northwest. It descends sharply in the north and slopes gently in the south. The ridge is composed of ancient crystalline shale with intrusions of igneous rock (such as peridotite and gabbro) and basalt eruptions. It is covered with taiga forests, primarily spruce.
