Vezirov, Mir Gasan Kiazim Ogly

Born 1889; died Sept. 20, 1918. Active participant in the struggle for the establishment of Soviet power in Azerbaijan. Born in the city of Shu sha into the family of a teacher.

Vezirov joined the revolutionary movement when he was a student in secondary school; he was persecuted by the tsarist government. He was a Socialist Revolutionary (SR); in 1917 he began to work for the Bolsheviks. In November 1917 he became a member of the Executive Committee of the Baku Soviet. He was also people’s commissar of agriculture of the Baku Commune of 1918. In May 1918 he was vice-chairman of the Executive Committee of the Council of Peasants’ Deputies of Baku District. On June 18, 1918, a decree of the Baku Sovnarkom (Council of People’s Commissars) on the confiscation of landlords’ land and its transfer to the working peasants was published over Vezirov’s signature. He was among the 26 Baku commissars shot by the SR’s and the British interventionists.
