type-2 specialist-registrar training programme

type-2 specialist-registrar training programme

A format for specialist-registrar training in the UK, which ended in 2006 with the implementation of the Modernising Medical Careers framework for specialist training. Type-2 programmes were normally held by trainees in Fixed-Term Training Appointments (FTTAs) who were issued with fixed training numbers (FTNs). Type-2 programmes were specifically designed to meet the needs of an individual overseas doctor and did not lead to the award of Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST). Some overseas doctors were able to transfer from a type-2 to a type-1 post if they were successful in open competition, where they were be awarded a visiting training number (VTN).
