STAT5A

STAT5A

A gene on chromosome 17q11.2 that encodes a member of the STAT family of transcription factors, which are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases in response to cytokines and growth factors. The STAT5A protein product is activated by and mediates the responses of many cell ligands, such as IL2, IL3, IL7 GM-CSF, erythropoietin, thrombopoietin and various growth hormones.
Molecular pathology
STAT5A activation in myeloma and lymphoma and TEL/JAK2 gene fusion is essential for tumourigenesis.
