State Academic Council
(GUS), the leading scientific methodological center of the People’s Commissariat for Education of the RSFSR from 1919 to 1932. It was made up of the following sections: political science, pedagogical science, technical sciences, arts and sciences, medical-biological sciences and nationality education. GUS approved curricula, syllabi, and teaching aids for primary, secondary, and higher schools and instructors for higher educational institutions.
After the creation of the Committee for Higher Technical Schools (USSR Central Executive Committee resolution of Sept. 19, 1932), GUS was abolished and its functions transferred to the Educational-Methodological Council of the People’s Commissariat for Education of the RSFSR, the Academic Methodological Council, and the experts’ commissions of the Committee for Higher Schools.
