Socket 7

(hardware, standard)A physical and electrical specificationfor the x86 processor socket matching the pins on Pentiummicroprocessors manufactured by Intel, and compatiblesmade by Cyrix, AMD and others. Any CPU chip conformingto this specification can be plugged into any conformingmotherboard.

Supported processors include: 2.5V - 3.5V Pentiums 75-233MHz, AMD K5 through K6, Cyrix 6x86 (and MX) P120 - P233.

Socket 7 uses a SPGA socket, either a 296 pin LIF or a 321pin ZIF arranged as 37x37 or 19x19 (depending on who youspeak to!).

Socket 7

The motherboard receptacle that holds a Pentium CPU chip. It is also used to hold Pentium-compatible chips such as AMD's K5 and K6 CPUs. See Slot 1 and Super7.

Socket 7
Socket 7 uses a zero insertion force (ZIF) assembly. After insertion of the chip, the lever is pulled down and the pins are locked in.
