Size: Park area includes 131,983 acres (federal: 71,715; state:60,268). Old-growth forest is 38,982 acres (federal: 19,640; state:19,342).
Established: Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park was established on August 13, 1923. Del Norte CoastRedwoods State Park: October 26, 1925. Jedediah Smith Redwoods StatePark: June 3, 1929. Redwood National Park: October 2, 1968. In 1994, the California Department of Parks and Recreation and the National Park Service agreed to manage the four-park area jointly for maximum resource protection. The four-park cluster was designated a World Heritage Site in 1980 and an International Biosphere Reserve in 1983. In December 2005, federal legislation was approved to expand RedwoodNational and State Parks by including the Mill Creek watershed withinits boundary.
Location:Along the northern California coast, just south of the Oregon border. Accessible via US 101 and 199.

Activities:Camping, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, boating, kayaking, whitewater rafting, auto touring, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Coastal redwood forests with virgin groves of ancient trees, including the world's tallest, thrive in the foggy and temperate climate. The park includes 40 miles of scenic Pacific coastline. The three California state parks (listed above) together with Redwood National Park comprise 45 percent of all the old-growth redwood forest remaining in California.
