On the central northern border of NM; north of Santa Fe; original county; organized Jan 9, 1852 (prior to statehood). Name Origin: A Spanish transliteration for a town of the Tewa Pueblos, located in what is now Taos County. From either tuota 'red willow place,' or tuatah 'at the village.'
