Sabre Shin

A descriptor for the thickened, anteriorly-bowed—with possible lateral bowing—tibial cortex, caused by chronic periostitis which spares the epiphysis, classically described in latent congenital syphilis; it may also occur in rickets, Paget disease of bone and advanced acquired syphilis
DiffDx Non-progressive, bilateral and symmetrical anterior bowing of the tibia and fibula may be seen in achondroplasia, type IX Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, enchondromatosis, fibrous dysplasia, excess fluoride ingestion in pregnancy, hyperparathyroidism, hyperphosphatasia, neurofibromatosis, osteogenesis imperfecta, osteomalacia, osteomyelitis, rickets, thanatophoric dwarfism, Weismann-Netter syndrome
