SOCS2

A gene on chromosome 12q that encodes a member of the suppressor of cytokine-signalling—i.e., STAT-induced STAT inhibitor—family, which are cytokine-inducible negative regulators of cytokine signalling. SOCS2 expression is induced by cytokines (e.g., erythropoietin, CSF2/GM-CSF, IL10 and interferon-gamma), and it provides a negative feedback loop to attenuate cytokine signalling. SOCS2 interacts with the cytoplasmic domain of insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF1R) and is thought to be involved in regulating IGF1R-mediated cell signalling.
