reelin signal pathway

reelin signal pathway

A critical neural-signalling cascade triggered by reelin, a large secreted matrix glycoprotein involved in regulating neuronal migration and positioning in the developing brain by controlling cell–cell interactions. Reelin binding of Notch-1—a transmembrane receptor that induces expression of FABP7 (fatty acid binding protein 7, brain)—causes stem cells to assume radial glial phenotype. Neural corticogenesis depends on reelin processing by embrionic neurons, which secrete one or more metalloproteinases that liberate central signal-competent parts of the protein.
