 time reference scanning beam[′tīm ‚ref·rəns ′skan·iŋ ‚bēm]  (navigation) A radio or radar beam which is swept to and fro over a sector of space and in such a manner that the interval between reception of successive pulses at an aircraft indicates the aircraft's altitude or azimuth.
