Urlanis, Boris Tsezarevich
Born Aug. 15 (28), 1906, in Kiev. Soviet demographer. Doctor of economic sciences (1940).
After graduating from Moscow State University in 1926, Urlanis engaged in scholarly and pedagogical work. From 1944 to 1949 he was a professor at Moscow State University, and from 1949 to 1956 he was a professor at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography. In 1959 he became a staff member of the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Urlanis’ most important works deal with general problems of population, the dynamics and structure of the population of the USSR, economic demography, and the general theory of statistics. Urlanis joined the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population in 1966 and became a member of the council of the World Population Society in 1973.
