Location:In northeastern Illinois, 4 miles south of Fox Lake in Lake and McHenry counties, on West Brandenburg Road.
Facilities:Visitor center with displays, restrooms, picnic area, nature trail.
Activities:Hiking, cross-country skiing, hunting, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Volo Bog was created by the melting of large blocks of ice pushed deep into the ground 12,000 years ago. Among the bog's interesting plant life are sphagnum moss, cattails, leatherleaf, and a tamarack forest.
