Bajor, Gizi

 

Born May 19, 1893, in Budapest; died there Feb. 12, 1951. Hungarian actress; People’s Artist of the Hungarian People’s Republic (1950).

Bajor graduated from the Theatrical Academy in Budapest in 1914 and made her debut in the National Theater that same year. Her roles included Marta (in Grandmother, by Csíky), Zilia (in The Dumb Knight, by Heltai), Nora (in A Doll’s House, by Ibsen), Cleopatra (in Antony and Cleopatra, by Shakespeare), Anna Karenina (in the dramatization of the same name, after L. Tolstoy), and Lady Milford (in Intrigue and Love, by Schiller). She received the Kossuth Prize in 1948.
