Bakal

a city in Cheliabinsk Oblast, RSFSR. Last station on the railroad branch line from Berdiaush. Population, 33,000 (1969). Bakal is the center of a major iron-mining region. Iron ore is extracted. There is a sintering combine and a mining technicum. Bakal was organized in 1951.
