Location:Baker and Howland are just north of the equator in the central Pacific Ocean, about 1,600 miles southwest of Honolulu; Jarvis is 1,000 miles east of Baker and Howland.
Special Features:Feral cats once preyed heavily on the island's nesting seabirds; they were successfully eradicated from Baker Island in 1964.
Habitats: Baker is a 405-acre flat coral island surrounded by 30,504 acres of submerged land; Howland consists of a 455-acre island surrounded by 32,074 acres of submerged land; Jarvis is a 1,086 island surrounded by 35,297 acres of submerged land.
Access: Access is restricted to protect nesting colonies; authorized visitation only by permit issued by refuge manager.
Wild life: Nesting seabirds.
