Suppes, Patrick Suppes, Patrick(1912– ) philosopher, educator; born in Tulsa, Okla. After serving in the U.S. Air Force (1942–46) and earning a doctorate in philosophy from Columbia University (1950), he joined the Stanford University faculty in 1948; in 1959 he became director of Stanford's Institute for Mathematical Studies in the Social Sciences. As president of the American Educational Research Association (1973–74), he was a pioneer in computer-assisted instruction and contributed to logic and probability theory. |
