Tapieh

a mountain range in China, a southeastern extension of the Tsinling range. Its elevation averages about 1,000 m, reaching 1,860 m at the highest point. It runs from the northwest to the southeast for 250 km, forming a divide between the Yangtze and Huai rivers. It is composed chiefly of sandstones and limestones. The northern slopes are steep and jagged and the southern slopes are gently rolling. Deep valleys, which occasionally cut through the range, serve as communication routes between northern China and the plains of the central Yangtze River. Its slopes are covered with broad-leaved forests. In the valleys with southern exposure there is significant evergreen growth.
