Permiakov, Iakov

 

Date of birth unknown; died 1712. Russian navigator and entrepreneur.

While sailing from the Lena River to the Kolyma River in 1710, Permiakov saw two islands in the sea, Bol’shoi Liakhov Island and one of the Medvezh’i Islands. In 1712 he and M. Vagin traveled by dogsled from the mouth of the lana to Bol’shoi Liakhov Island and explored the island. On the return trip, Permiakov was killed by mutinous cossacks.
