permissive conditions
permissive conditions
- (genetics) conditions under which an ORGANISM or CELL does not express a conditional mutation (see CONDITIONAL MUTANT and so does not display the MUTANT PHENOTYPE. For a CONDITIONAL LETHAL mutation, permissive conditions are not lethal to the mutant.
- (virology) conditions in which VIRUS INFECTION and MULTIPLICATION occur normally in a cell. Compare NONPERMISSIVE CONDITIONS.
