Tarabarinov, Leonid Semenovich

Born Nov. 8, 1928, in the village of Shalygino, Glukhov Raion, Sumy Oblast. Soviet Ukrainian actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1972).

In 1955, Tarabarinov graduated from the Kharkov Institute of Theater Art and began performing in the T. G. Shevchenko Kharkov Theater. His best roles have included Iarema in The Cossack Rebels, adapted from Shevchenko’s historical narrative poem; Fedor Protasov in L. N. Tolstoy’s The Living Corpse; Don Juan in Lesia Ukrainka’s The Stone Master; and Mastakov in Gorky’s The Eccentrics. Tarabarinov has also performed the roles of Laertes in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Berest in Korneichuk’s Platon Krechet, Vasin in Simonov’s Russian People, and Stoian in Kavaleridze’s Perekop.

Since 1956, Tarabarinov has acted in films; his roles have included Valerii Golik in Poem About a Sea (1958) and Danilo in Human Blood Is Not Water (1960). Tarabarinov has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and a medal.
