Boitsov, Vasilii Vasil’evich

Born Dec. 19, 1907 (Jan. 1, 1908), in the village of Alabino, in what is now Naro-Fominsk Raion, Moscow Oblast. Soviet state figure. Doctor of technical sciences (1960); professor (1955). Member of the CPSU since 1939.

The son of a worker, Boitsov graduated from the N. E. Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School in 1937. From 1937 to 1947 he worked at an aviation plant, where he held successively the posts of engineer, head of a shop, production chief, chief engineer, and director. From 1947 to 1963 he was deputy minister of the aviation industry and director of a scientific research institute.

Boitsov became chairman of the State Committee for Standards of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (Gosstandart) in 1963 and the State Committee of the USSR on Standards in 1978. In 1976 he was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He was a deputy to the seventh through tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. In 1977 he became president of the International Organization for Standardization.

Boitsov has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, four other orders, and various medals.
