Vasilii Vladimirskii
Vladimirskii, Vasilii Vasil’evich
Born July 20 (Aug. 2), 1915, in Zheleznovodsk. Soviet physicist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1962).
Vladimirskii graduated from Moscow State University in 1938. He has been deputy director of the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics since 1946. His principal works deal with problems in optics and the propagation of ultrasound and electromagnetic waves as well as with the theory of linear accelerators and neutron spectroscopy. Vladimirskii took part in the creation of the Serpukhov accelerator with an energy level of 70 giga-electron-volts. He received the State Prize of the USSR in 1953 and the Lenin Prize in 1970.
