Tarasevich, Leontii

Birth date unknown; died after 1703. Foremost Ukrainian engraver of copper.

Tarasevich studied in Augsburg and subsequently worked in Chernigov, Kiev, and Moscow. His portraits, including those of Tsarevna Sofia, Prince V. V. Golitsyn, F. Shaklovityi, G. Zemlia, and Prince Radziwitt (1680’s-1690’s), are distinguished by subtlety and by their individuality of characterization. Tarasevich also did a series of engravings for the Kiev-Pecherskii Patericon (1702) and Psalter (1703).
