Tarasov, Aleksandr Mikhailovich

Born Apr. 24 (May 7), 1911, in Saratov; died June 27, 1975, in Moscow. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the CPSU from 1940.

The son of a worker, Tarasov graduated from the M. V. Lomonosov Moscow Mechanics Institute in 1932 and subsequently worked in the automotive industry as director of a design bureau, shop superintendent, director of a technical department, and chief plant engineer. He was director of the Altai Tractor Plant from 1949 to 1951 and director of the Minsk Tractor Plant from 1951 to 1958. From 1958 to 1963 he was chairman of the Sovnarkhoz (Council of the Economy) of the Byelorussian SSR. From 1963 to 1965 he was deputy chairman of the Supreme Council of the Economy of the USSR, ranking as a minister of the USSR. In 1965 he became minister of the motor-vehicle industry of the USSR.

Tarasov became a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1961. He was a deputy to the fifth through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
