Romanenko, Prokofii Kalenikovich

 

Born July 26 (Aug. 8), 1906, in the village of Sosonka, in what is now Vinnitsa Raion, Vinnitsa Oblast, Ukrainian SSR; died there July 17, 1965. Kolkhoz production innovator; twice hero of Socialist Labor (1950, 1958). Member of the CPSU from 1938.

From 1930 to 1937 and 1944 to 1950, Romanenko was chairman of the rural soviet. From 1950 to 1959 he was chairman of the Leninskii Shliakh Kolkhoz in Kalinovka (now Vinnitsa) Raion, Vinnitsa Oblast. Under Romanenko’s management the kolkhoz had high crop yields each year and made improvements in animal husbandry. In 1957 the kolkhoz produced 24.4 quintals of grain and 394.6 quintals of sugar beets per hectare (ha); livestock produced 354 quintals of milk and 43.6 quintals of meat per 100 ha of agricultural land. The annual milk yield per forage-fed cow was 3,884 kg. Romanenko was awarded the Order of Lenin.
