Proletarsk

a city (until 1970, the stanitsa, or large cossack village, of Proletarskaia), administrative center of Proletarsk Raion, Rostov Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the right bank of the Zapadnyi Manych River (tributary of the Don). Railroad station on the Volgograd-Novorossiisk line, 206 km southeast of the city of Rostov-on-Don. Population, 17,000 (1974). In the city there is a fish plant, a rice-cleaning enterprise, a butter factory, and a building-materials combine.

an urban-type settlement, center of Proletarsk Raion, Leninabad Oblast, Tadzhik SSR. Railroad station on the Khavast-Kokand line, 20 km southwest of the city of Leninabad. Population, 14,100 (1974). Proletarsk has a cotton gin, and building materials are produced. There is also a poultry farm.
