Trubachev, Oleg Nikolaevich
Born Oct. 23, 1930, in Volgograd. Soviet linguist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1972). Member of the CPSU since 1974.
Trubachev graduated from Dnepropetrovsk University in 1952. He became deputy director of the Russian Language Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1966 and has served as head of the institute’s sector on etymology and onomas-tics. His principal works deal with the etymology of Slavic languages and with East Slavic onomastics. Trubachev has been editor in chief of the nonperiodic series Etimologiia since 1963.
