Trubetskoi, Nikita Iur’evich
Born May 26, 1699; died Oct. 16, 1767. Russian state and military figure; prince; general field marshal (1756).
Trubetskoi studied abroad from 1715 to 1717. In 1719 he received a position at the imperial court and joined the guards. In 1730, supporting Empress Anna Ivanovna, he took part in the struggle against the verkhovniki (seeSUPREME PRIVY COUNCIL). From 1740 to 1760, Trubetskoi served as procurator-general of the Senate. In this capacity he headed the investigation and trial of A. I. Osterman in 1741 and of A. P. Bestuzhev-Riumin in 1758. In 1760 he became a senator and the president of the Military Collegium. Trubetskoi retired in 1763.
