Reftinskii State Regional Electric Power Plant

Reftinskii State Regional Electric Power Plant

a condensation electric power plant located near the settlement of Reftinskii, Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR. The design capacity is 3.3 gigawatts, and the power is derived from six power units of 300 megawatts each and three units of 500 megawatts each. Coal from the Ekibastuz Coal Basin is used as fuel; water is supplied by a circulating system, and a water cooling and storage reservoir is located on the Reft River.

Construction of the plant was begun in 1968. The first unit began operation in 1970, and in 1974 the operating capacity was 1.8 gigawatts. Power generated by the plant is transmitted by high-voltage power transmission lines carrying 220 and 500 kilovolts to the unified electric power system for the Urals, part of the Integrated Electric Power Grid of the USSR.
