Timofeev, Timur Timofeevich

Born Nov. 30, 1928, in Ivanovo. Soviet historian and economist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966). Member of the CPSU from 1950.

From 1961 to 1966, Timofeev was deputy director of the Institute of World Economics and International Relations, and in 1966 he became director of the Institute of the International Labor Movement of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Timofeev’s chief works deal with issues pertaining to the labor and democratic movement and the theory of scientific communism. Among these works are The Negroes’ Struggle for Freedomin the USA (1957), The Proletariat Versus the Monopolies: Essayson the Class Struggle and the Democratic Movements in the USA (1967), The Great October Socialist Revolution and the International Labor Movement (1967), The Worldwide Historical Mission of the Working Class (1968), The International Labor Movement and the Anti-imperialist Struggle (1968), and The Philosophy of Historical Optimism: A Critique of Antiproletarian Doctrines (1975). Timofeev also edited or was one of the authors of a series of joint works. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of the October Revolution, and various medals.
