Timor SeaTimor SeaTimor Seaan arm of the Indian Ocean, situated between Australia and the island of Timor. The Timor Sea has an area of 615,000 sq km. Depths over most of the sea’s area do not exceed 200 m; maximum depth, in the Timor Trough, is 3,310 m. Currents flow eastward in the winter and westward in the summer. Water temperature varies seasonally from 25°C to 29°C. The salinity is 34–35 parts per thousand. Tides are irregular and semidiurnal, with heights of 3–4 m.
