Timpton

 

a river in the Yakut ASSR. The Timpton, a right tributary of the Aldan River of the Lena River basin, measures 644 km in length and drains an area of 44,400 sq km. It originates in the Stanovoi range and flows through the Aldan Plateau. In the upper course the river valley is wide and very marshy. In its middle course the Timpton is a typical mountain river for a distance of 300 km and flows through ravines. The river is fed by rain and snow. The mean flow rate is 560 cu m per sec. The river freezes in mid-October, and the ice breaks up in the first half of May. The lower course is used for floating timber.
