personal development plan
personal development plan
A formal personalised and self-administered programme of education, knowledge maintenance and professional self-improvement undertaken by a doctor or other professional to ensure quality of clinical care. PDPs include clinical audit and reflective notes, and are tools that identify areas for further development, and that encourage lifelong learning and continuing improvement of one’s skills and competence. They identify goals for the forthcoming year and methods for achieving these goals. PDPs have been advocated by the medical Royal Colleges as a basis for continuing professional development.Created under the Improving Working Lives initiative, all staff are meant to have an agreement in place with their employer for their own personal development.
