[′sāf·tē ‚lev·ər] (ordnance) A metal piece forming part of a grenade fuse that is restrained either by hand or by the projection adapter after the safety pin is removed; following the release of the grenade, the lever is discarded and the fuse train is initiated by the action of the released fuse firing pin. A lever that sets the safety mechanism on certain types of automatic weapons.
