Aiushi
Aiushi
Born in 1858; died in 1939. Leader of the arat (livestock-breeding serfs) liberation movement in the southwestern part of Kobdo District, Outer Mongolia, between 1903 and 1917.
Aiushi was a serf of the prince of the hoshun (banner) Manibazar. In 1903 he led the revolt of the arats and petty taiji (lower ranks of the service class) of the hoshun against their sovereign prince. From 1911 until around 1918 he led the struggle of the arats of the hoshun against feudal and colonial oppression. Subsequently, Aiushi was active in the revolution of 1921 and in the construction of popular democratic Mongolia.
