target acquisition radar[′tär·gət ‚ak·wə¦zish·ən ′rā‚där] (engineering) An antiaircraft artillery radar, normally of lesser range capabilities but of greater inherent accuracy than that of surveillance radar, whose normal function is to acquire aerial targets either by independent search or on direction of the surveillance radar, and to transfer these targets to tracking radars.
