Statistika

(Statistics), a central publishing house within the system of the USSR State Committee on Publishing, Printing, and the Book Trade.

Located in Moscow, Statistika was founded as Orgstroi (Organizational Committee for Organization in Industry) of the People’s Commissariat of Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspection of the USSR, a committee established in 1925. Orgstroi was reorganized in 1931 as Soiuzorguchet (All-Union Committee for Organization of Accounting) of the State Planning Commission (Gosplan of the USSR), later becoming Blankoizdatel’stvo (Blank Form Publishing Offices) of Gosplan in 1939 and Gosstatizdat (State Statistical Publishing House) of the Central Statistical Administration of the USSR in 1948. Gosstatizdat was renamed Statistika in 1964. In 1972, the publishing house Soiuzuchetizdat (All-Union Accounts Publishing House) was founded to replace the blank form publishing section of Statistika.

Statistika publishes scholarly, scientific, industrial-engineering, reference, and educational materials on statistics, demography, bookkeeping, computers, automatic control systems, and the automatic processing of economic information. In 1975 it published 189 titles of books and pamphlets in runs totaling 3.6 million copies and 44.4 million printer’s sheets.
