Aizman, Nikolai Spiridonovich

 

Born Dec. 2 (15), 1905, in the village Al’geshevo, Cheboskary District; died July 17, 1967. Soviet Chuvash playwright. Honored Artist of the Chuvash ASSR; also an actor.

Aizman’s first play, Village in the Willows, was published in 1929. His comedies of manners, including The Chest Has a Lid, Too (1936), If Not the Horse, Then the Shafts (1939), Dark-eyed Girl Friend (1950; written with S. Pavlov), and Marry Ivan (1956), depict life in kolkhoz villages.
