 [al-fen´tah-nil] an analgesic" >opioid analgesic of rapid onset and short duration derived from fentanyl; the hydrochloride salt is used as a primary agent for induction of general anesthesia, as an adjunct in maintenance of general anesthesia, and as an adjunct to regional or local anesthesia.

alfentanil

A potent, short-acting opioid analgaesic and fentanyl analogue which is 10-fold stronger than morphine. It is an OP3 mu agonist.

Modulation of the sympathetic response to endotracheal intubation and surgical stimulation.
