Advanced Power Management

(hardware)(APM) A feature of some displays, usually but notalways, on laptop computers, which turns off power to thedisplay after a preset period of inactivity to conserveelectrical power. Monitors with this capability are usuallyrefered to as "green monitors", meaning environmentallyfriendly.

Not to be confused with a screen blanker which is softwarethat causes the display to go black (by setting every pixelto black) to prevent burn-in.

Advanced Power Management

A programming interface (API) from Intel and Microsoft for battery-powered computers. Advanced Power Manaement (APM) lets programs communicate power requirements to slow down and speed up components. See ACPI.
