anta[′an·tə] (architecture) A pier or pilaster formed by a thickening at the end of a wall. AntaA pier or pilaster formed by a thickening at the end of a wall, most often used on the side of a doorway or beyond the face of an end wall.   anta ( pl. antae) antae A A pilaster or a rectangular pier formed by a thickening at the end of a wall, usually projecting into a façade or portico; its capital and base usually differ from those on columns within the portico.
