target resolution

target resolution

A process to ensure that corrected radar targets do not touch. Target resolution is in terms of the azimuth and the range resolution. The range resolution is determined by the pulse width, whereas the angular resolution is dependent on the antenna-beam width. The velocity resolution is determined by Doppler processing. The target resolution is applied as follows: (i) between the edges of two primary targets or the edges of the airport surveillance radar primary target symbols; (ii) between the end of the beacon control slash and the edges of the primary target; or (iii) between the edges of two beacon control slashes. Mandatory traffic advisories are issued when this procedure is used. See radar resolution.
