Páger, Antal

Born Jan. 29, 1899, in Budapest. Hungarian film actor. People’s Artist of the Hungarian People’s Republic (1963).

From 1919, Páger worked in the theater, and in 1932 he began acting in films. From 1944 to 1956 he lived in Argentina. Some of his best roles include that of a construction engineer (Don’tKeep Off the Grass, 1960), Akos Vajkay (The Lark, 1963; shown in the Soviet Union under the title of Loving Is Forbidden), chairman Jóska (Twenty Hours, 1964), Dr. Weisz (Death of a Doctor, 1966), the Reverend Fonai (Welcome, Major, 1969), and David Rudolf (Hares in the Wardrobe, 1972). Páger was awarded the Kossuth Prize in 1965.
