Viliui Reservoir

 

a reservoir formed in 1965-67 by the dam of the Viliui Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Viliui River in the Yakut ASSR. It has an area of 1,200 sq km, a volume of 9.7 cu km, a length of 400 km and an average depth of 8 m. The original design provided for the expansion of the dam, resulting in a considerable increase in the size of the reservoir. The level of the water varies within the limits of 18.5 m. The Viliui Reservoir provides seasonal regulation of the water flow. It is used for the generation of electric power and for water transportation. There is fishing for the nelma and broad whitefish.
