track plot

track plot

track plotA continuous record on a chart of all an aircraft's tracks and distances flown. The position of the aircraft, determined by pinpoints, fixes, or DR (dead reckoning) calculations, is plotted at intervals on a chart. These positions are used to determine the aircraft's progress and to calculate future positions, ETAs (estimated times of arrival), and any corrections of headings that may be necessary. Such plots are very commonly used by radar controllers, but the aircraft's position is determined by the radar.
